Program:
The house is to be built within the
typical practice for Habitat for Humanity with some
modifications to make a house that is more sustainable.
The site for the house is adjacent to an elementary
school in West Jackson. The house will collect rainwater
for use in a garden. The house will use solar hot water
heating and photovoltaic panels to supplement the energy use.

Design:
The roof is shaped to collect rainwater
and give the house a tall interior space which will provide
passive ventilation and natural lighting. The solar
panels will be located on the roofs of the three light
monitors.

Client:
The house is being sponsored by Mississippi 2020, a nonprofit environmental education organization.
The city of Jackson has provided a grant for the cost of
the house which includes some additional funds for equipment
and materials that cost more than the typical Habitat house
project. The house will be owned by a family selected by Habitat
for Humanity.
